Hunger is always closer than you think, and Good Sams and participating area schools hope to take the holiday burden off of 225 qualified families this Thanksgiving by providing meal baskets. Families with verified needs can register in the ministry office every Monday from Oct 3 through Oct. 24. A typical basket comprises a complete holiday meal including a turkey gift certificate, traditional side dishes and dessert.
Proof of income and other paperwork verifying need will be required to apply. Applicants will not be allowed to accept assistance for a Thanksgiving basket from any other program.
For more information about registration, to volunteer, or to host a participating food drive, please contact Tassie Wahl or Penny Weaver with the Good Samaritan Ministry at 985 641-6421.
This is a charitable event that could not be possible without the dedicated support of volunteers and donors, including those who participate through food drives at Northshore High School, Pope John Paul, Our Lady of Lourdes, the St. Luke CCD program and the Abney Nutrition Council. Individual donations of food, money and volunteer hours are also graciously accepted.
