The Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation are intricately united, as these three are the Sacraments of Initiation into the Church.
By the Sacrament of Confirmation, those who have already been baptized and received Holy Communion are "more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed" (CCC 1285).
The same Holy Spirit who descends upon the Apostles at the first Pentecost, the same Holy Spirit who descends upon us at Baptism, the same Holy Spirit who descends upon the bread and wine and transforms them into the the Body and Blood of Christ, this same Holy Spirit descends upon each of the Confirmed, sealing and setting apart the person to be a true and bold witness of the Faith.
Because this is such an important decision in the life of a Christian and in the life of the Church, it is important that the necessary preparations for this life of full-initiation take place.
