Book Publisher - Romance Novels
Our user asked:
"As a publisher - I publish books by authors who write romance novels, which includes alot of premarital sex as you can imagine. By publishing these books, even tho (sic) not the author of them, I am still promoting this act which is a mortal sin. I feel I am then contributing to the sin. True-False?"
After consultation and query to multiple other clergy I'm going to say True.
It is obvious that your conscience is revealing to you that some sort of moral evil is taking place with the production and publishing of these books. If the books were not published, then it would not be able to be read.
Now, the author could (and probably would) just find another publisher and the book will be published, but without your assistance and consent. It seems to me that the publishing of the book is direct cooperation with what could be a morally evil act, and therefore sinful.
The virtuous course of action would be to NOT publish things that are immoral or that promote immorality. This is somewhat analogous to a pharmacist that fills prescriptions for birth control pills for the purpose of preventing pregnancy.
God's Grace and Peace to you.
